Giovannini Enrico

Enrico giovannini is full Professor of Economic Statistics at Rome Tor Vergata University, Senior Fellow at the LUISS School of European Political Economy, Visiting Fellow at the European Commission’s European Political Strategy Centre, a member of the Club of Rome think tank, and president or a board member of various Italian and international foundations and organisations. The United Nations Secretary-General recently appointed him to co-chair the Independent Expert Advisory Board on Data Revolution for Sustainable Development.

From January 2001 to August 2009, he was Director of Statistics and Chief Statistician at the OECD, where he launched the Global Project on the Measurement of Progress in Societies, which gave rise to the worldwide movement to go “Beyond GDP”. He has coordinated one of the three groups in the Stiglitz-Sen-Fitoussi Commission established by French President Sarkozy on New Measures for Economic Performance and Social Progress. For two years from 2008 to 2010, he chaired the World Economic Forum’s Global Council on Benchmarking the Progress in Societies.

From August 2009 to April 2013, he was President of the Italian statistical institute (ISTAT). He was then appointed Minister for Employment and Social Policy, serving until February 2014.

In October 2014, he was awarded the honour of “Cavaliere di Gran Croce al Merito della Repubblica”. He has written over 80 published articles in the fields of statistics and economics and is the author of four books.
