“When you face a disable child, it’s a nightmare and a disaster; when you face disable children, it’s a mission and a business.” Mr. Jack Su having a daughter with severe cerebral palsy always uses this statement as his opening in speech. He and his wife established Children Are Us Foundation in 1995. They believe the people with intellectual disabilities can create their value and contribute to the society.
Through the bakeries and restaurants, Jack wants to transform the value of people with intellectual disabilities: from people beneficiaries of services, they now have become people capable of offering services; from people using up resources, they have now become people capable of generating resources. Children Are Us has now become a synonym for people with intellectual disabilities, and the bakeries operated by the foundation have become a model of social entrepreneurship in Taiwan. Children Are Us Foundation now offers over 708 job opportunities and long term services for intellectual disabilities and creates US$ 17million revenue per year.
Jack now focus on building a new business-The Happiness Industry which mainly provides services and products associating with wedding, such as wedding party, wedding gift and bride cookies etc. Before founded Children Are Us Foundation, Jack was a manager in petrochemical company for twenty years to help him applying a lot of working experience and management to practice for Children Are Us Foundation. And right now, Jack has been a contributing writer for books, has published dozen of articles, and speaks extensively on social enterprise management issues. Jack earned his bachelor from National Taiwan University, his master from University of Maryland, USA.
