Sebastian Rocca is a social entrepreneur and LGBTI activist with more than 10 years’ experience in international LGBTI human rights and NGO management. Prior to founding MRI he served as executive director of UK Lesbian & Gay Immigration Group (UKLGIG), and held the same post at the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex Association (ILGA). Under Sebastian’s leadership, ILGA re-obtained ECOSOC status at the United Nations, doubled its budget and membership, and opened a representation office in Geneva, Switzerland. He founded Micro Rainbow International (MRI) in 2012. MRI brings together Sebastian’s two main passions in life: achieving equality for LGBTI people and tackling poverty. In the first two years of it’s life, MRI was named one of the top 10 tweeter influencers on sexuality and development by The Guardian, secured funding from a various donors including the European Union and established a strong presence in the UK, Brazil and Cambodia. Sebastian holds a master’s degree in economics from Bocconi University (Italy), and a master’s degree in poverty reduction and development management from the University of Birmingham (UK).
